I published my first work in 1967 when I went home for furlow from Fort Bragg. My parents next door neighbor was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and I remember listening to him for hours as a young man. I thought that if I was so intrigued by this man, then the reading populous would be too.

I remember that this was the easiest and hardest project to write. As I interviewed him the story just poured out, but putting these stories into formatted sentences, paragraphs and sections was a tedious process.

I remember that when I showed my parents my first draft, they were so moved that they were unable to hold back their tiers. I knew then that I had succeeded in capturing this man's story and putting it to text.
