New
Book For Finding Roofing Angles
Some years ago, I had been working in the shop, and the superintendent
came to me with a project that required some hip, and valley flashings
for a large metal roof. That was no problem, we usually drive out
to the site, climb on the roof, and measure all the angles with a
hand made protractor, large enough to obtain accurate angles.
As he handed me the plans I asked if he had followed that procedure,
and he, of course, had forgotten. No problem, lets just drive out
and get them. He then told me that the job was 300 miles east of town.
Ouch, a 12-hour drive and $70.00 per man-hour. Not exactly a simple
solution.
Well the next best thing was to build a small 3-D model and get the
angles that way. 45 minutes, and of course, $50.00 later, I had the
needed angles for the job. I then got on with the business of making
400 feet of flashing.
I was sufficiently angry that I began wondering if somewhere, someone
knew how to do the business of finding 3 dimensional angles. Later,
after I retired, I decided to take a few math classes at my local
college, and found that there was in fact a solution to my quandary.
Over the next few months, I wrote the book for finding all types of
roofing angles. Angles for Hips, Valleys, ridges, and Chimney Crickets/saddles.
Any angle, any slope, and possible combination, up to 48/12 by 48/12.
